Sad the Face of Autumn
(20 November 2011)
Sad the face of Autumn,
Now the leaves have fallen
And the trees are bare.
The evening’s in so early,
We have lunched but barely,
When the dark is there.
Soon, I’ll wake one morning
To sense the woeful warning:
Watch out: Winter’s here.
Through my bones the cold be creeping,
My nose be sore with sneezing
And damp be everywhere.
I wish I were in Darwin
Where the sun shines bright each morning
And frost is unknown fare.
But now, forget the Winter grim
Uncork the wine and tuck right in.
